What if internal cooling did more than just cool your tool?
When a tool is cutting, there are two key factors that need to be controlled: heat and chips.
Internal cooling addresses precisely these two issues by delivering the coolant directly to the heart of the cutting zone. The result is better temperature control, but above all, much more efficient chip removal. The coolant reaches exactly where it is needed. Unlike external cooling, the coolant is directed straight onto the cutting edges.
It can therefore effectively help to:
- Cool critical areas of the tool
- Limit overheating during machining
- Improve cutting conditions
- Maintain tool performance
But its role does not stop there.
Effective chip removal = a more stable process
One of the major advantages of internal cooling is chip removal. The pressurised fluid in the flutes carries the chips towards the exit. They are therefore removed more quickly rather than becoming trapped in the cutting zone. For micro-tools, this benefit is particularly important. When chips build up in the flutes, cutting forces can increase sharply and cause random tool breakage. Better chip clearance therefore also means greater stability and fewer unexpected problems in production.
When drilling, every chip counts
The benefit is even more evident when drilling. The deeper the hole, the more critical chip removal becomes. Internal cooling creates a flow that carries the chips along the flutes and helps them travel outwards. And when machining materials that produce long chips, such as lead-free brass, this feature becomes particularly crucial. Less jamming. Less chip re-cutting. Less risk of breakage.
Internal cooling: a key to productivity
Internal cooling is therefore not simply a cooling solution. It is a real key to improving the performance and reliability of the machining process. By directing the fluid directly onto the cutting zone and aiding chip removal, it helps to create more stable machining conditions, particularly when working with small diameters, micro-tools and demanding drilling operations. Effective cooling is important. Effective chip removal is essential.
What if your tool could perform even better?
At PX Tools, we design our tooling solutions with the entire cutting process in mind: geometry, chip evacuation, cooling and stability. Because a high-performance tool is not just a tool that cuts. It is a tool that cuts reliably, consistently and sustainably.
